Teach For America was launched more than 24 years ago in the United States, with the goal of reducing socioeconomic inequalities in education, mobilizing professionals to intervene as teachers for 2 years in vulnerable neighborhoods. The movement has been very successful, it is currently present in 34 countries around the world.
Teach For Belgium was born in 2013 in Brussels. In 2015 we proposed our help, they needed to mobilize future teachers and they had already carried out various activities and had even recorded testimonies from teachers and the young people in the program. They sent us the material they had and after a couple of telephone discussions we agreed and made this video.
Coaching, self-esteem project
In 2015, the youth prevention service of the municipality of Petite Foret organized a self-esteem seminar for 10 girls from their commune, since they had identified this problem.
We were asked to propose, organize and animate the workshops for a week. It was a week of activities, teamwork, laughter and emotions.
We carry out a final restitution to value and visualize the girls' change and the way they face the problems. Here is a summary of the activities.
Promote exhibition
"The Unusual Dreamers" is a visual diary that mixes photographs, illustrations and writings. It responds to a double theme. For this first number: the legs and the clouds. About thirty authors (young and renowned) presented their vision of this topic.
The exhibition took place between November 4 and 13, 2016 at the Foyer Cinéma de l'imaginaire.
We made this video on the opening day to spread it on social networks, with the aim of promoting the event.
Promote a radio broadcast
In 2017 Latinos Unidos was born, a radio program that wants to spread Latin American culture through music. The program is broadcast every Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on youfm 106.9 radio in Belgium. And it is possible to listen to it online youfm.com.
We made this video on the day of the training, to spread it on social media, with the aim of promoting it and making it known.
Mobilize volunteers
Social mentoring in the Afev association. A student volunteer accompanies a fragile child or young person on their journey. This accompaniment is personalized. Focused on their needs and interests, the support encompasses and transcends the school framework to work on motivation, self-confidence, cultural openness, mobility, autonomy.
In 2018 the problem was that there were many young people waiting for a mentor and there were not many students. So we followed a pair during a session, and we made this video in order to spread it on social networks and reach the students.
Testimony of young people regarding the First World War
In the context of the "Duty of Memory" project, the youth prevention service of the municipality of Petite Foret organized a visit to the Somme in 2018.
They invited us to be part of this beautiful project with the objective of making a video that could illustrate the experience of the participants, their point of view regarding visits to historical places. But mainly the emotions of this group of young people. In addition, we made a small book with photos of the place and testimonies from the participants.
